Integrate Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony Bravia TVs into your KNX system with ayControl

In this article, we will show you how to integrate network enabled televisions from Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony Bravia with the new functions of ayControl KNX + IoT.
Currently, ayControl KNX + IoT can control most models of Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony Bravia Televisions with full functionality.
In just a few steps, you will be able to control your televisions and use them in EcoButler automation rules.

If you have any problems during configuration, please refer to the Troubleshooting sections!

Integrate Samsung SmartTVs (C, D, E, F series)

  1. Make sure the TV is turned on and connected to the local network (WiFi or LAN).
  2. Create a new IoT connection in the ayControl Editor and select “Samsung SmartTV (C, D, E, F series)” from the list.
  3. After clicking OK, you can name your connection. e.g. “TV Livingroom”.
  4. Leave the default value in the next step for now. Only change it to “true” if you experience problems with the default configuration.
  5. Enter the model number of your TV. You can find it e.g. at the back of your TV, in the settings or in the manual. Examples: UE40ES5700, UE46F6400, UE55C8000, UE60D6500
  6. In the final step, you need to specify the TVs IP address. It can easily be obtained by using a network analyzer app like e.g. ‘Fing’ (for Android and iOS).
  7. In order to control some older Samsung TV models, you may need to enable the required capabilities in the TVs settings first. Go to Settings->Network remote control and enable it.

Your Samsung SmartTV (C, D, E, F series) connection is now ready to use! You will receive an authentication prompt on your TV when first connecting to it, where you need to grant access to ayControl.

Troubleshooting

Q: Why doesn’t the TV show me an authentication prompt and won’t let me control it?
A: Make sure the device is in the same network as the TV you want to control and that the TV is turned on. On some older models, also make sure that you have enabled the Network remote control option in your TVs settings.

Q: Why does the TV ignore certain buttons or key presses?
A: As there are loads of different models, series and regional differences in Samsung TVs, not every function defined in our integration may work on your device. This is the same reason why we may have missed including some keys your device does understand.

Q: Why has the connection stopped working after restarting the TV or network router?
A: Most likely, the IP address of your TV has changed automatically and ayControl can’t access it via the old IP anymore. It is therefore advised to set it to a static IP. You can either do this directly in the TVs settings (Network) or in the configuration interface of your network router.

Integrate Samsung SmartTVs (K, M, Q series and newer)

  1. Make sure the TV is turned on and connected to the local network (WiFi or LAN).
  2. Create a new IoT connection in the ayControl Editor and select “Samsung SmartTV (K, M, Q series and newer)” from the list.
  3. After clicking OK, you can name your connection. e.g. “TV Bedroom”.
  4. Leave the default value in the next step for now. Only change it to “true” if you experience problems with the default configuration.
  5. Now, you can enter the MAC address of your TV. This step is optional, but turning the TV on via ayControl will not work if you skip it. You can find your MAC address e.g. at the back of your TV, in the settings or alternatively by using a network analyzer app like e.g. ‘Fing’ (for Android and iOS).
  6. In the final step, you need to specify the TVs IP address. It can also be obtained by using a network analyzer app like e.g. ‘Fing’ (for Android and iOS).

Your Samsung SmartTV (K, M, Q series and newer) connection is now ready to use! You will receive an authentication prompt on your TV when first connecting to it, where you need to grant access to ayControl.
